Last Sun in Ipanema
This was the last sunset I got to enjoy looking over Posto 9 on Ipanema Beach in Rio. It was also the day of the street party, where they shut down the entire street along Ipanema and it fills with people, music and of course dancing… what a sight!
Face Off
Coming face to face with a beautiful Whale Shark is certainly not an experience that I will forget in a hurry despite all the trouble I had with my underwater camera housing on this day.
It was one of the first times I had used the housing and not having the camera set up correctly before dropping it into the housing limits very much what you can change – lesson learned. Lets just put it down to an inexperienced operator error.
Hi Jericoacoara
Jericoacoara is a small town on the northern end of Brazil, and to be honest a little bit of a pain to get to… but 100% worth it.

Summer Is Coming
Ok – so I haven’t exactly been regularly posting for a long time now due to a number of factors… but I’m back baby!
Finally I have rebuilt my desktop computer with what should be enough power to loom over a small pacific nation. New hardware, new operating system, and now one of those Adobe Creative Cloud people too… everything is so fresh and shiny and has that new car smell to it.
While having new stuff is always fun… what I am really looking forward to is going back through all the photos I have just been storing for the last 18 months or more, and finding what hidden gems I have. I know there are some rather large panoramas sitting on my hard drive that I can’t wait to see.
Oh… and of course Summer is coming. Very much looking forward to serious catch up time with some sun, surf and sand.

I would have thought that I was seeing in black & white if the sky was not such a beautiful blue while shooting in Game of Thrones country around the Mývatn district in Northern Iceland.
The Glory of Goðafoss
A few posts back, I showed you a peek from Behind The Lens at Goðafoss – Waterfall of the Gods. This is the image that I was taking of this amazing waterfall in the Mývatn district, Northern Iceland.
Goðafoss or Godafoss was named after Christianity became the official religion of Iceland around the year 1000, and the lawspeaker Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði, threw statues of the Norse Gods into the waterfall.
Rarely Disappointed
The Jetty is usually a nice vantage point to watch a sunrise from… and this morning did not disappoint in any way.
No matter where else I seem to travel in the world, I always love shooting seascape images around Coffs Harbour.

The Troll
The troll Hvítserkur, forever frozen in time.
Legend is that the rock formation is a troll that was caught by sunrise and turned to stone. The formation is also known as Dinosaur Rock, and located in Northern Iceland.
I don’t normally do a lot of B&W landscapes, but this one just works for me.
Getting the Shot in Game of Thrones Country
Sometimes you have to go that little bit further to get the shot you want… It was a little cold getting this shot so didn’t hang around too long in this position.
Taken in Mývatn around where they shoot some of the hit TV series ‘Game of Thrones’. Another stunning area to put on the must see list when you visit Iceland.
Seeing the Sights
Hiding Under Fjalljokull
Standing in an ice-cave as large as this one is one of the most amazing views I have ever had. Like I have said, the play on light coming though the glass-like walls and roof is simply a sight to behold.
What do you do when you see a river flowing under millions of tonnes of ice? You attempt a panorama while standing in the river of fast flowing water course! I was not 100% happy with the reflections and shape of the roof, so I got the shot above which I like much more. What do you think… which is your preferred viewpoint?

Hrafnabjargafoss in all its winter glory. How often can you stand on a frozen waterfall and take a photo of another?
After visiting Aldeyjarfoss, It was a hard ask to be impressed with another waterfall, but with spectacular icicles formed around the entire edge Hrafnabjargafoss delivered.

A Feast for the Eyes…. Aldeyjarfoss
May I present a feast for the eyes…. Aldeyjarfoss! One of the most beautiful waterfalls I have ever seen, and well worth the effort to get to during winter. Currently working on a 600 megapixel stitched version of this shot.
Tasting Iceland
I have been wanting to do this for a while before I arrived in Iceland, and today I had both the chance and courage to do so.
Hákarl – or fermented shark, is a local delicacy I guess you could say… there are those that love it, and then most normal people hate it. 😀
It is made from Greenland or Sleeper Shark. Once caught it is buried for a while, and then hung to ferment for months on end… Check out Bizarre Foods youtube clip on Hákarl here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KL9xuTsfdE
It really was not as bad as what I thought it would be. Another thing ticked off the bucket list… Hákarl – Yummo!
Behind The Lens at Goðafoss – Waterfall of the Gods
I had a fantastic day of shooting at Goðafoss here in Northern Iceland today, and also visited some areas where the TV Series ‘Game of Thrones’ was filmed. The area around the Mývatn district is covered in a blanket of fresh snow, and everything else aside… the scenery is spectacular to say the least.
Meanwhile, my gear has held up to everything it has had thrown at it including rain, snow, and now ice. I am always so careful with my gear, and don’t mind spending a little more for quality. This trip has tested it all. You know it is cold when your camera has ice on it… That isn’t water, trust me – it’s ice!
